Lizzo, in an interview with Vanity Fair, dismissed claims that she creates music for a “white audience,” asserting her songs reflect her Black experience through genres like hip hop and R&B.

Despite her chart-topping hits, she’s troubled by their popularity among white listeners, highlighting a disconnect. She stresses her music’s authenticity to her identity and aims to empower Black individuals seeking self-love and affirmation.

Addressing criticisms of racism, Lizzo firmly asserts her artistic expression stems from her Black perspective. Meanwhile, Kanye West criticized public reactions to Lizzo’s weight loss, alleging a push to normalize being overweight as part of an attempt to undermine the Black community. He interprets societal acceptance of unhealthy lifestyles as a targeted attack on Black people, calling it “a genocide of the black race.”
