At work, what you wear and what makes you comfortable can be a tricky balance. In this story, a woman is being questioned for picking comfort over following a dress code. Her decision has caused different reactions from her coworkers, sparking discussions about expressing yourself, gender expectations, and the rules of the workplace.
One woman shared her side of the story.
On my first day at my new job, I wore a sweater and pants, but no bra. I never wore one at my old job either because I find them uncomfortable. However, two people at my new job told me my outfit was inappropriate and suggested I wear a bra. They said they could see the shape of my boobs under my sweater. I felt uncomfortable because I didnโt know them, and my sweater covered everything.
On my second day at work, I still didnโt wear a bra, but this time I wore a T-shirt and a jacket. Two more people criticized me, even though I thought I was dressed more conservatively than before.
It felt serious because one of them was the secretary of my boss. I told her thereโs no dress code in the office and everyone should wear whatโs comfortable. But she said thereโs still an unwritten rule to follow, and she mentioned my boobs again.
